Movie Watching

So, following the ever popular “Music you should be listening to…” here are two movies which aren’t getting a lot of screen time.

1. Little Miss Sunshine. This movie is fantastic. Well worth the price of admission anywhere. It is a story about how messed up a family can be, but blood is blood. You can’t change that. This movie both made me laugh and made me sad, but at the end of the day it leaves you with a great feeling.

2. Idiocracy. This movie was released yesterday (09/01/2006) it is written by Mike Judge. The same Mike Judge who brought you Office Space, Beavis and Butthead, and King of the Hill. This movie is alright, it’s a story that takes place 500 years in the future where the world has become to stupid that they can not think or solve any of their problems. I would not pay full price for this, but I would pay the early bird price. The movie has its funny moments and Michael Bolton (from Office Space) is in it. That alone should be worth the five bucks.

The Scream is Recovered

You might remember this story I posted on August of 2004. The story talks about Edvard Munch’s The Scream with was stollen for the second time and is one of my favorite works of art.

So, today forbes magazine has an article on how it was recovered. Happy day, it only took two years and it seems that the pieces are in good shape. I always thought this was going to end up like something out of the Thomas Crown Affair.

Congrats!

30 Seconds to Mars – The Kill

So, I saw 30 Seconds to Mars about 3-4 years ago. They were doing small shows promoting their first album in Houston. Good times and I got a chance to meet the band. Most should know that Jerod Letto is the lead singer and he has been on a few films, specifically on Requiem for a Dream. If you’re not watched RfaD you should.

Another song about relationships, I seem to gravitate towards those. Regardless, great song. In tune with many other songs I’ve posted before. Therefore, I will leave the interpretation to you.

What if I wanted to break
Laugh it all off in your face
What would you do?
What if I fell to the floor
Couldn’t take all this anymore
What would you do?

Come break me down
marry me, bury me
I am finished with you

What if I wanted to fight
Beg for the rest of my life
What would you do?
You say you wanted more
What are you waiting for
I’m not running from you

Come break me down
bury me, bury me
I am finished with you
Look in my eyes
You’re killing me, killing me
All I wanted was you

I tried to be someone else
But nothing seemed to change
I know now, this is who I really am inside
Finally found myself
Fighting for a chance
I know now, this is who I really am

Come break me down
bury me, bury me
I am finished with you, you, you
Look in my eyes
You’re killing me, killing me
All I wanted was you
Come, break me down
Break me down
Break me down

What if I wanted to break…?
What if I…
What if I…

FreePBX and a Cisco 7940 Phone

So, it has been months since I posted something technical on my website. For the most part it has been music stuff as well as general updates on the overall infrastructure of the site. However, for the past month or so I’ve been working on getting a Cisco SIP phone working with FreePBX. However, the problem was that I was not able to receive inbound calls.

This was the not so descriptive error:

    -- Called 2000
; my sip extension
-- Got SIP response 400 "Bad Request" back from 192.168.1.102
; sip reply
    -- SIP/2000-7b88 is circuit-busy
; this cause the call to go straight to VM

Looking at the logs and googling for weeks on the problem, it was possible that the problem was the following:

    -- Executing NoOp("Zap/1-1", "Using CallerID
""LastName FirstName "" <11234567890>") in new stack

Please note the double quotes around my name. Now, after talking to X-Rob on the #freepbx channel, he pointed me to the extensions.conf file where the CallerID seems to be handled or generated.

I looked at the last commit X-Rob made and compared it to the previous one:

Revision 1891:

exten => s,n,GotoIf($["${AMPUSERCIDNAME:1:2}" = ""]?report)
exten => s,n,Set(CALLERID(all)="${AMPUSERCIDNAME}" <${AMPUSER}>)

Revision 1900:

exten => s,n,GotoIf($["x${AMPUSERCIDNAME:1:2}" = "x"]?report)
exten => s,n,Set(CALLERID(all)=${AMPUSERCIDNAME} <${AMPUSER}>)

However, this latest change still did not eliminate the double quotes from the CallerID.

So, I removed the quotes around the variable x and inbound calls finally worked! Looking at the logs however I do get an unknown name for the CallerID field, but at this point I don’t really care. I will try to work on the code and see if I can figure out the “correct” way to fix this issue, but for now I’m just happy I’m able to receive inbound calls.

Here is what the logs show with the “” removed from around the x:

    -- Called 2000
; my sip ext againg
    -- SIP/2000-0e25 is ringing
; my phone ringing
    -- SIP/2000-0e25 answered Zap/1-1
; me answering the phone

Cheers

Blue October – Hate Me

If you’ve never heard of Blue October or seen them in concert you’re missing out. This band is originally from Houston and they have a huge following in Texas. I’ve been to maybe 5 Blue October concerts and they have all been great.

Now, this song could have two interpretations. One of a son who’s given his mom a heal of a time and now regrets all the trouble he has caused. The other could be of a girlfriend who was mistreated along the way.

Either way, great song, lots of meaning.

If you’re sleeping, are you dreaming, if you’re dreaming are you dreaming of me? I can’t believe you actually miss me…

Hi Justin! This is your mother it is 2:33 on Monday afternoon. I was just calling to see how you were doing. You sounded really uptight last night, it made me a little nervous, and a little, well it made me nervous, but it sounded like you were nervous too. I just want to make sure you are really okay and wanted to see if you were checking in on your medication too. You know I love ya. Take care honey, I know you’re under a lot of pressure. See ya. Bye Bye!

I have to block out thoughts of you, so i don’t loose my head
They crawl in like a *censored*roach leaving babies in my bed
Dropping little reels of tape to remind me that I’m alone
Playing movies in my head that make a porno feel like home
There’s a burning in my pride, a nervous bleeding in my brain
An ounce of peace is all I want for you, Will you never call again?
And will you never say that you love me just to put it in my face
And will you never try to reach me, it is I that wanted space

Hate me today
Hate me tomorrow
Hate me so you can finally see whats good for you

I’m sober now for 3 whole months, it’s one accomplishment that you helped me with
The one thing that always tore us apart is the one thing that I won’t touch again
In a sick way I want to thank you for holding my head up late at night While I was busy waging wars on myself, you were trying to stop the fight
You never doubted my warped opinions on things like suicidal hate
You made me compliment myself when it was way too hard to take
So I’ll drive so *censored*ing far away that I’ll never cross your mind
And do whatever it takes in your heart to leave me behind

Hate me today
Hate me tomorrow
Hate me for all the things I didn’t do for you
Hate me in ways, yeah ways hard to swallow
Hate me so you can finally see whats good for you

And with a sad heart I say bye to you and wave
Kicking shadows on the street for every mistake that I have made
And like a baby boy I never was a man
Until I saw your blue eyes cry and I held your face in my hand
And then I fell down yelling make it go away,
Just make her smile come back and shine just like it used to be
And then she whispered "How can you do this to me?"

Hate me today
Hate me tomorrow
Hate me for all the things I didn’t do for you
Hate me in ways, yeah ways hard to swallow
Hate me so you can finally see whats good for you

Hey Justin! x12+

We are the champions, my friend.

So, as some of you know I play on a couple of soccer teams; three of them to be exact two men teams and a coed team. One of the men teams is made up by about half of my coworkers and half of friends from other teams. This team was first formed last season and we had a dismal year. We won a single game and that was via a forfeit. The usual outcomes were 10-1 or 9-0. It was painful. However, this season we had a 5-3-1 season and were able to win the championship last night. We started with only two subs and they had about eight. Also, one of our very strong attackers was not able to make it. So, things were not looking too good at first. However, we came out shooting and we scored the first one. Our defense, which is probably one of our weakest points, really stepped up and quickly identified their number one guy. He was not able to get much started with the middle and defense really playing body to body. Our goalie was having a monster game; however, by the end of the first half we were tied 2-2. The second half was much better, we controlled most of the game and they were getting frustrated and playing very physical and committing a lot of fouls. Final score 4-2 and the championship. It was amazing!

I’ve got soul but I’m not a soldier

So after 4 years RHCP will be releasing a new album, the first track Dani California sounds sweet and the video is hilarious. After 5 years or so TOOL will be releasing their next album 10,000 Days. I loved their last one and I’m pumped about this one. Finally, Pearl Jam will also be releasing an album, not sure how long it has been since their last one, but I think it has not been that long. Seems like we might have a good music year on our hands, because with new albums come tours!

Back!

Well, my site had been down for many weeks and I really had not had time to fix it, so I sat down today and said I was not going to get up until this site was up and running again. So, its up and running again. I think the problem was that I ran out of space in my DB, so that was it. After a couple of log reviews and some tweaking, I am back online. It is time to do some clean up though.

Winter O6

So, on my way to work I saw a Camaro, Acura, Beetle, and a Xterra all totalled. Then I saw two near misses. BTW, the Xterra was flipped over. Slow down people and please be careful.

It feels like solid air.

Work has been an up hill battle these past couple of weeks. There is a light, but it is faint and distant.

Rage against the dying of the light.
