Sprint HTC Mogul Update to 3.35.651.2

Well, HTC had promised to release a ROM update for the Mogul early Q1 2008. Well, it’s late Q1 2008 and we have ourselves a new ROM. So far, this is the fastest link to the ROM coming from the Sprint servers Link. All the instructions you will need will be found here. Finally, I recommend you check out the read me once you start installation. It has a bunch of great screen shots. I’ve had around 12 hours of usage with this ROM so far and it seems a lot better. Finally got GPS working with Google Maps. The keyboard seems a lot more responsive and the volume seems louder. So far so good.

Some of us can follow directions.

So, a couple of friends and I decided to run the Cowtown Marathon 10k. Which was a lot of fun.

So, we got there a bit late since, I forgot to set my alarm to ring on weekends. There were some issues with the registration and I had to stay behind while the race started. Once I was done, I was able to go on with the race, but I was already 20 minutes behind. Doesn’t matter, since it’s all timed with chips anyway. So, I start my run and finish it in around 55 minutes. Now, this is where things get sad. I get a call on the cellphone from my sister. She is on mile 7 and doesn’t know what to do. Turns out she missed the turn off between the 10k and the half marathon. So, she decides she is just going to run the half. About 10 minutes later I get a call from Julian saying he is on mile 9 and that he is now running the half. Finally, Iggie calls Julian to tell him that he is also running the half by mistake. Needless to say, 3 different people running separate from each other all ran a half marathon by mistake.

While I felt a little left out, I don’t think I could have physically ran a half marathon. The night before the game I had 3 soccer games all for the championship. We won all 3 games and my legs were starting to cramp up at that point. Just being able to get out of bed was an accomplishment for me. However, knowing that everyone else ran a half marathon with out any real training, gives me a little bit of hope. I’ve actually been doing some training and should be ready for a half. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks.

Firefox Add-on Webmail Notifier Stuck Gmail

So, I’ve been using this great extension/add-on called Webmail Notifier. I use it to check my Hotmail, Yahoo, and Gmail accounts. It works great. However, lately I noticed that when it checked Gmail, it gave me an incorrect number of unread messages and I was never able to clear that count. Well, after some research I figured out a solution to this problem. GMail likes to archive old emails and while you will not seem in your inbox, they might be unread and you never know it.

To find out if you have any archived unread message, log in to Gmail, in the search box type in “is:unread” and search mail. This will give you every unread email in your account.

Welcome to the ATL.

Clark and I decided late last week that a weekend trip to Atlanta was in order. I had been a few times for business, but never really got a chance to see the city. So, Wednesday we had finalized our plans and were ready to fly out on Friday.

First, this is what Clark decided to rent, which was hilarious given the fact that so many rappers hailing from Atlanta talk about the Escalade.
The Escalade

First, thing we did was check in to our hotel to change and get some food in us. We stayed in a region of Atlanta called Buckhead. No idea why, but it is a pretty nice area with a lot of great homes and commercial areas.

We made a stop at some great restaurants. Tw!st, Einsteins, and Nan are the ones that come to mind. These places were delicious and had a great atmosphere. Here is a picture of Clark taking the last piece of the pizza.

This was us after the huge amount of food which was consumed on the first day.

Next, it was off to Phillips Arena to watch the Atlanta Hawks vs. the Cleveland Cavaliers. Let me tell you what an absolute horrendous basketball game. It looked like we were watching a high school game. So many missed shots, guys constantly rolling around in the floor, and no crowd participation at all. The arena is a dump and really looks like it is in dire need of a make over.

One final highlight of the weekend was The World of Coca Cola. This thing was a lot of fun and not too expensive. $14 if I remember correctly. The coolest thing they had was this 4-D movie which utilized moving seats, water/air nozzles, and 3-D glasses. One of the coolest thing I had seen in a while. One other highlight was being able to drink all the Coca Cola soft drinks you could possibly take. After 5 minutes this novelty wore off and I don’t think I can drink another soft drink for a while. Clark took full advantage of this though.

Finally, these are the cool 3-D glasses they gave out. I’m so hood!

Would go back and do it again, but would never want to live there.

SecureCRT Replacement PuTTY Connection Manager

Well, I’m a huge fan of SecureCRT. It is great when connecting to two gate keepers, two gateways, etc and keeping all it’s information tabbed and saved for quick access. However, this fine piece of software does come with, what I believe to be, a steep price. However, thanks to Ciscoblog.com I have an alternate solution. I just started playing with it, but so far it looks great.

Running seems forever.

So, one of my goals for 2008 is to run a marathon. However, due to injuries and just general laziness I’ve spent the month of January in a vegetative state. Aside from soccer on the weekends, I really didn’t do much more. So, I decided to jump start the month of February with a 5K race. So, while the weather was beautiful and the race atmosphere was great, I felt a little out of sync while running, but still finished the race in 27 minutes coming in 248 out of 689 runners. So, I ran a 5K knowing full well I had two soccer games about 3 hours later. Didn’t think much of it. The first soccer game went fine and we had an overwhelming victory. However, here comes the second game. I can tell I’m a little tired, so I decide to play as the goal keeper. Well, needless to say, within the first 10 minutes they had scored 3 goals on me and I had saved probably 4 others. They were good. So, around this time is when I started feeling the tingling of a cramp in my right calf. Sure enough, 5 minutes later I was on the floor with a one inch ball of pain. I was done for the evening and still feel the remnants of the cramp this morning. No pain no gain, but that was a hell of a lot of pain.

Cisco Unified CallManager… err Communications Manager

So, lately I’ve been playing around with CUCM (yes, that’s the new name) 5.x. First, the OS installation is very sleek and works like a champ in VMWare. Something which was never very easy with Windows 2000 as the underlying OS. Finally, upgrading is very easy to do and it seems to work great too. Here is a screen shot of an upgrade from 5.1.1 to 6.0.1. So far so good.

Sprint HTC Mogul and Opera Mini

Well, this is a continuation to my earlier post. Instead of editing that one and adding this piece I decided to just post a whole new piece. Well, it has been a few days and I’ve used Opera Mini 4 pretty heavily with no freezing. The one thing I’ve noticed is that you will have to allow it permission to access the network every time you use it. The other major problem is that it is not as responsive as the out of the box midlet manager. The major issue is that it seems to hang for a few seconds while accessing a new page. However, it works consistently without any major issues. Here is my earlier post in case you’ve missed it. I recommend everyone try the Esmertec Jbed, it works wonders.
