Ok so maybe I misread the conf.php file.

In case you noticed or cared for that matter, the "email this story to a friend feature" was not working. Well it turns out that I had misread the path to sendmail /usr/bin/sendmail != /usr/sbin/sendmail. So now it works, (ab)use it to your hearts content.

dmacias.org now with 99% less SPAM.

So my site had been getting hit daily by SPAM. The SPAM would come in the form of a comment to random stories. The comments would be nothing but links to porn sites or financial helps sites. So I finally tracked down about 5-7 IPs that were the ones who did this, banned them, and now it has been 3 days with no SPAM. So I think the attack has settled down a bit, but I am sure it will start again eventually, it is all a matter of time.

irony: Getting SPAM comments in this story :–)

I went to junior high with this guy.

Story

Quote:

Cadet given 5 years for child porn

An A&M student and Corps of Cadets member was sentenced Dec. 13 to five years in federal prison after pleading guilty to possessing child pornography, said University Police Department (UPD) director Bob Wiatt.

Stephen Michael Johnston, 22, a senior psychology major from Brownsville, was arrested this March as part of a nationwide FBI sting called “Operation Candyman.” Johnston was a subscriber to the “Candyman” e-mail group in which an estimated 6,000 users exchanged images of pornography involving children as young as 18 months. Johnston had been in jail in Houston since his arrest.

UPD officers executed a search warrant and confiscated Johnston’s personal computer from his residence hall room in Fountain Hall Dec. 10, 2001, and sent it to the FBI. Wiatt said the computer was “replete with child pornography.”

Col. Rick Mallahan, assistant commandant of the Corps, said in June that Johnston intended to return to school if he did not get sentenced to prison.

Johnston was one of more than 80 individuals arrested nationwide in the Candyman sting. An East Texas man who was the leader of the e-mail pornography ring was sentenced Dec. 19 to 30 years in prison. Mark Bates, 33, of Palestine, pled guilty to distributing child pornography.

Johnston had earlier pled not guilty to charges of conspiracy to distribute child pornography, which would have carried a maximum 15-year prison term and a $250,000 fine. Subscribers to the Candyman group were expected to contribute images as well as receive them.

Two other Texas men arrested in the sting were also sentenced in December. Robert Froman, 49, received 15 years, and Billy Loyd White, 46, received four years. Both are from the Houston area. Now, I am not completely absolutely sure if it is the same Stephen I knew, however here are the hints.

The Stephen Johnston I knew was:

– The same age I was

– From Brownsville, Texas

– White in a city where Hispanics make up about 92% population

– In the corp of cadets

Putting 2 and 2 together leads me to believe that this is the same guy. Now let me tell you what I remember from Stephen.

He was an extremely nice guy, really friendly, and really smart. He was one of the nerdy kids in my school, well so was I, but not as bad. He was tall and skinny with thick glasses. He was pretty quite and had a close group of friends. Never, in a million years would I have imagined something like this. You just never know.

Soccer!

So you might know, I play soccer, I love to play soccer. Soccer is the best sport in the world! :-)

Edit:
So here is a the source of my discontent.

Division III

Mondial III 25 8 0 1 61 15 46 9
*Team Red 24 8 1 0 61 17 44 9
Guadalajara 19 6 1 1 40 19 21 8
Infinity 15 4 2 3 45 32 13 9
Blinn 1 13 4 3 1 45 30 15 8

*Yes that is us in 2nd place. So today we played this team who we felt pretty confident that we would beat. However, guess what, we did not. First of all, they actually stacked the team. They took two of the best players from another team and had them play with this team. Something that is illegal according to our league rules.

Next, the ref was friends with a couple of people from the other team and called most of the game a bit lopsided. Finally, he gave me a yellow card which I and many of my team members felt that it was unfair. I went to head the ball, goalie comes out for it, slams into me, gets the air knocked out of him, and he leaves the game hurt. David gets a yellow card and a $5 fine. Goalie later returned and he seemed fine.

So, after going undefeated we lost one game one week before the playoffs. We should still be ranked #1 however; this should give us a wake up call. We can be beat.

Finally, the final score was 4-3, they were getting scared we scored 2 goals on them in the last 5 minutes.

Do you really want to hear about my day?

A bit of a rant or just blowing off steam or just waiting for this batch file to finish.

The project that has sucked my life away this semester.

So if you know me, you probably are aware that Tim and I spend around 100+ man hours working on a Access database for a coverage project in the Middle Rio Grande Valley. Well, today I get a link that talks a little more about the project and that shows how much money is actually involved in this project.

Here is the story

It is nice to see a story about a project you have been involved with, but it would be nice to see some of those $2M come our way. Oh well, I learned tons about VB script and how horrible Access can be.

Modest Mouse – Float On

This song is pretty good and the video is amazingly cool. Not exactly sure what to make of the song yet, still trying to analyze it, but for the most part it is just a feel good song.I backed my car into a cop car the other day
Well he just drove off sometimes life’s okay
I ran my mouth off a bit too much oh what did I say
Well you just laughed it off it was all okay

And we’ll all float on okay
And we’ll all float on okay
And we’ll all float on okay
And we’ll all float on anyway, well

A virtue maker took every last dime with that scam
It was worth it just to learn from slight of hand
Bad news comes don’t you worry even when it lands
Good news will work its way to all them plans
We both got fired on exactly the same day
Well we’ll float on good news is on the way

And we’ll all float on okay
And we’ll all float on okay
And we’ll all float on okay
And we’ll all float on alright
Already we’ll all float on
Now don’t you worry we’ll all float on alright
already we’ll all float on alright
Don’t worry we’ll all float on

(Alright already)
And we’ll all float on alright
Already we’ll all float on alright
Don’t worry even if things end up a bit too heavy
We’ll all float on alright
Already we’ll all float on alright
Already we’ll all float on okay
Don’t worry we’ll all float on
Even if things get heavy we’ll all float on alright
Already we’ll all float on (alright)
Don’t you worry we’ll all float on (alright)
All float on

dmacias.org is almost not broken.

Ok, so you might have noticed the somewhat drastic change going around here. Images seem to be in their respective spot and comments can now be viewed again.

There are some bugs that I am chasing around so sit tight.
